Shorland Old Farm, Exmoor, Devon

Shorland Old Farm is on the edge of Exmoor National Park, and is a great venue for courses. We couldn’t have  better hosts, the food is wonderful and accommodation so comfortable and convenient. With the studio just across from the farmhouse it makes for an ideal and relaxing venue for students, with no travelling, or concerns about where to dine out each evening.
All meals are provided from your arrival on the first afternoon for a welcoming Devon cream tea to the final  breakfast before departure.
Nel and Rebecca will be there to welcome you and will join you for dinner on the first and last evenings.
Tuition in the studio is from 10am to 4pm each day for 3 days.

Linwood Village Hall

We have decided to run a NEW course nearer to Nel’s home. Linton Memorial Hall has only just been refurbished and is in the picturesque village of Linton, very near to the market town of Wetherby. It’s a three day non- residential course but there are some lovely places to stay very nearby including Wood Hall, if you fancy pampering yourself. It’s only a five minute drive and is situated within beautiful countryside. The course will be Friday – Sunday 10 – 4pm, with all materials, lunch and easels provided.

Bill and Lois Breckon have been running courses for some years at The Watermill and have a great reputation. This is what they say about their lovely venue…

“For centuries artists have drawn their inspiration from the Tuscan landscape and you could find few better places to enjoy your art and improve your skills than the beautiful Watermill at Posara, set beside a river in a gentle valley.
You’ll stay in stylish bedrooms in elegant buildings around a sunlit courtyard. You’ll take leisurely breakfasts and enjoy mouth-watering evening meals at the mill (and also dine out in nearby restaurants to sample local dishes and wines).
The mills gardens, millstream and riverside walks are all yours to enjoy.”

Comments from previous students to this venue include…
“An enchanting place – I really loved it, endless delightful subjects to paint”
“From the moment I stepped into my apartment and saw and heard the river, I realised it was going to be very special”
“We’ve been on many painting holidays but this was the best ever.”

NB Rebecca only will be teaching on the 2018 course.
Rebecca’s course  will include some painting en plein air, some studio based work and trips out to beautiful locations. There is a more detailed example of a typical itinerary on their website. What Rebecca seeks to offer is a new experience of using pastels outside and to introduce the joys of exploring how inspiring another countries landscape and countryside can be. As ever the atmosphere will be relaxed with one to one help, demonstrations and lots of lovely food!

Included in the cost of your holiday at the Watermill are: tuition, accommodation (including all linen and towels), pre-dinner aperitifs, all meals and wines (including outings to charming local restaurants) and all local transportation (including transfers to Pisa airport and an excursion by train to Lucca or the Cinque Terre). Materials are not included, please see list of things that you will need to bring.
NB Flights to Pisa are not included.

We are delighted to have found such an ideal venue in a great location for transport links. Centre of England Arts was founded for the education and delight of people who love learning and want to know more about the techniques of art, so is perfect for us, with a fully equipped studio space. It is non-residential, but if you want to stay nearby, there are many local B&Bs and hotels, we suggest that you look at TripAdviser for reviews and information.

It can be reached via the M42, and has excellent rail links nearby, being 3.5 miles from Birmingham International station.
